What is Structafoam?

Structafoam is created by heating silica materials until it forms a low-density cellular structure. The finished product is porous, lightweight, and self-supporting due to its exceptional structural integrity. Typically, builders use Structafoam as a sub-layer. However, it can be coloured and used for other applications too.

High R-Value

Structafoam panels have very low heat conductivity due to their cellular structure. The installation process also increases R-value. The veneer is applied to the face of the Structafoam and then the panel is mounted using brick ties. These ties leave a small air gap between the veneer-faced Structafoam to increase insulation value and air flow.


The high-heat manufacturing process used for Structafoam modifies the cellular silica to create an incombustible end product. It is a safer choice than rigid polyurethane or polyisocyanurate foams since these products burn rapidly to produce intense heat, smoke, and gases.

Imperious to Common Threats

Structafoam is impervious to moisture, chemicals, pests, and vapour. It is virtually indestructible, unlike rigid polyurethane or polyisocyanurate foams. Pests can burrow through these conventional products to access food indoors. Additionally, these products are not impervious to moisture. They only claim to reduce moisture condensation and infiltration, not repel it. Structafoam is a superior choice for structural protection.


Structafoam panels are size-specific, so installation does not involve cutting and bits of messy debris. All surfaces are smooth and panels provide a professional, high-end finish.

Excellent Value

Solid stone facades are notoriously expensive. The materials and labour for installation often push them beyond most budgets. However, Structafoam veneer panels are much more affordable as they rely on a
thin layer of natural stone. The cost per panel depends on the raw materials chosen, the specific product, and the quantity ordered. Generally, the cost ranges between$200 and $320 per cubic meter.

Endless Possibilities

Since Structafoam is manufactured specifically for each project, it is possible to produce bas-relief and sculpture without additional machining. As well, this manufacturing technique can utilize various raw materials including glass cullet from recycled glass to reduce the project’s carbon footprint. Natural silicates such as diatomite, tripoli, flask, and zeolite are alternative options for green construction.
